Many people use stainless steel dishwashers nearly every day. Because these dishwashers are so commonly used, many people maintain the misconception that it doesn’t matter how they load the dishes because the dishwasher will completely wash everything inside, as long as there is enough soap. You may have gone over to the home of a friend or family member and began to help loading the dishwasher, only to have them politely tell you that were doing it wrong. While it may be true that there isn’t one single perfect way to use stainless steel dishwashers, there are still a few things you should know so that you make the most of yours.
Before you even start to load stainless steel dishwashers, you need to prepare the dishes. By cleaning up your dishes promptly after preparing a meal and dining, you can avoid having the food dry out and stick onto pans and dishes. If you are unable to do the dishes immediately for whatever reason, rinse them with warm water. You may want to fill bowls, pots, or pans with warm water as well. Although stainless steel dishwashers may have certain features that allow them to detect food items and adjust to clean accordingly, they will generally be much more effective when you rinse dishes before loading them.
When loading stainless steel dishwashers, place large items on the back or sides of the dishwasher and that they aren’t overlapping or obstructing other, smaller items. The careful placement of dishes allows for the uninhibited flow of water so that it can reach everything during the cycle. It is also important to avoid overloading the dishwasher. Crowding stainless steel dishwashers may cause the rinse cycle to be insufficient, thereby leaving behind food particles or dish detergent that wasn’t able to dissolve. It is also a good idea to angle the plates so that when they dry, the water runs off of them.
Silverware should also be loaded carefully into stainless steel dishwashers. Avoid accidental scrapes or cuts by pointing knives and sharp objects downward in the basket. Some people prefer to separate the silverware so that all knives are together, all spoons are together, and all forks are together in order to facilitate their easy removal from the dishwasher and return to the drawer. This can save time, but it can also allow spoons or forks that are facing the same direction to fit together and prevent adequate water flow between them. It may be better to mix the utensils in each compartment of stainless steel dishwashers.
Also, use the proper detergent. Stainless steel dishwashers usually have two compartments for detergent. One is usually for pre-washing and one is for the main wash. There is often a third compartment that allows for the use of a rinsing agent. This is particularly useful if you have hard water because even the highest quality stainless steel dishwashers may not be able to keep hard water spots from forming on dishes and glasses.
Last, lock stainless steel dishwashers and allow them to go through their entire cycle before removing the dishes. By following these simple steps, you can achieve the best results possible in stainless steel dishwashers.
